Easter Decorations Your Toddler Can Do

My toddler LOVES to help. He also loves doing crafts, but more than that, he loves to see his crafts being used as decorations around the house.

I like feeling like my house is not just my house, it’s Our House. More than that, it’s Our Home. It’s a little bit lived in—most of the furniture has been with us since we were married and, therefore, has been with us through our 4 moves in that time—but it’s ours. And with the addition of Bean and Bird, it’s their home, too, and so I want them to see they’re an important part of our family and they can make design modifications if they’d like. 😉

To that end, I try to involve Bean as much as I can whenever possible. With decorations for the multitude of holidays throughout the years, it becomes quite easy for him to get involved.

Here are some examples of how Bean has helped with our Easter decorations:

The eggs pictured above came from an idea I did growing up. We had eggs with nylon strings that we would use to decorate the bushes and trees outside our home in Ohio every year. I distinctly remember one picture where the colorful eggs are peeking out from under a good dousing of snow! (That’s the midwest for you!) I decided last year to do a similar thing but inside the house where I could enjoy the decorations a bit more. Although I did the stringing (with twine since that’s what I had on-hand), Bean loves moving the eggs around from doorknob to doorknob throughout the house. You can’t beat decorations that also double as entertainment!

Bean made this egg wreath this year. Mommy cut out the eggs from paint swatches (free brightly colored paper!) and applied the letters, but Bean chose the colors, their order, and glue-sticked them together (with Mommy’s help, of course).

If you check out my first craft post, you’ll find some contact paper stained glass Bean did this year, too!

Last year I had so much fun testing the limits of my 15-month-old Bean. He accomplished a lot for so young! I had him draw with crayons (some of his first drawings!) on Classic Pooh printouts I had on-hand from a baby shower. We mailed these to family members along with…

Thanks to the beautiful weather we enjoyed in March last year, I set up Bean with some homemade paint (an edible flour/water/food coloring mixture), some tools and paper, and one of Daddy’s old shirts, and let him have at it! Let your wee one paint, then cut out egg cards to send to people for Easter! What are some ways you’ve involved your kids in the decor of your home?
