My darling Wendy-bird turned one! I can hardly believe it! In honor of her birthday, we invited family over to celebrate with cake and snacks.
I like to keep it simple for first birthdays, especially since it’s more for me than for them at this point. To that end, we also asked people to gift money toward a college fund, instead of gifts. (I did this for Bean’s first birthday, too.) I figured, of all the birthdays, the first one is the one they get the least out of, so they’ll never notice if “all” they get is money (isn’t it funny how as adults that’s the best gift, but as kids we don’t appreciate it!) and I might as well start saving for them now so they can use it many years later!
I had a lot of fun decorating for this one, since we named Wendy for one of my favorite characters in all of children’s literature: Wendy Moira Angela Darling. (This is where she gets her nicknames, too!)
Family was a huge help, and they really got into the spirit of the Peter Pan theme!
My incredible mother-in-law made beautiful Wendy and Peter Pan costumes for Bird and Bean to wear the day of:
And I have to include several pictures of the breath-taking cake my sister made:
It was SO delicious: chocolate with salted caramel filling! (She is a professional in Seattle at Baked. You have got to check out their shop!)
I decorated with all our Peter Pan items: books (I’ve started collecting copies with different illustrations), records, stuffed animals, and art (including several things a dear friend had made (and let me keep!) for the baby shower). I purposely made decorations that I intended to use later as bedroom decor for Bird’s side of the room. I think it turned out great!
Check out my Peter Pan Inspiration board on Pinterest for more ideas! I would love to hear your ideas for Peter Pan themes!
